Nelson Brown Career Update
Scottish Hairdresser is in demand from the fashion industries finest
Nelson's latest thing is that he was scooped up by GMTV to go on the LK show to make over a young lady for a special evening. It went out to 6 million people and nelson said 'I wasn't really fazed by the cameras, I have worked on tv many times before'. The show was hosted by the fabulous Lorraine Kelly. 'Lorraine was lovely to work with and a great person'. GMTV have asked Nelson back for future shows.
Also Nelson has been working with Celebs. Nelson was asked to style the hair of glamourous Teri Hatcher during her stay in London. 'Teri was lovely to work with and an icon for many'. She was in the UK promoting her book 'Burnt Toast'. Nelson looked after her hair for the Paul O'Grady show which goes out live on air and also Friday Night with Jonathan Ross where he never left Teri's side except when she was on air of course. Nelson hopes to work with Teri again in the future.
Recent years have been hectic for Nelson Brown of Brown’s in Dumfries and the pace won’t be easing up any time soon. With two nominations for Scottish Hairdresser of the Year under his belt and Senior Membership of the ghd Directive Art and Creative Team, it’s clear that Nelson has both passion and talent in abundance. However a chance meeting with hot backstage session stylist Raphael Salley has led to a new creative collaboration that has seen Nelson fast tracked backstage to some of the most talked about shows in fashion.
Nelson who is no stranger to backstage work and session styling has been requested by established name Raphael Salley to create cutting edge styles that complete the seasonal collections of designers such as Jessica Ogden, Bora Aksu and Michiko Koshino. ‘Raphael asked me to join him in working on the shows and we quickly fell into an incredibly productive and creatively inspiring working relationship,’ says Nelson. The two men produced some outstanding shapes and styles for the Turkish designer Bora Aksu at the London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2006 shows, the inspiration being the traditional Turkish hood. They completed 85 wigs in just 5 hours and delighted the designer with the evocative results.
Nelson’s success with this professional collaboration led him to work on the Burberry show at Swarovski Fashion Rocks in Monaco, the glitziest, glossiest charity event in fashion history that took place this past October in support of the Princes Trust. The event paired performers with designers in a stunning show hosted by Jeremy Irons and Jerry Hall. Fashion giants like Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Armani, D&G, Prada were joined by performers such as Mariah Carey, Jamie Cullum and The Kills. Nelson created some stunning styles for Burberry designer Christopher Bailey’s quintessentially English creations. ‘I was so hyped to be a part of the event, it was wall to wall celebs and I even got to meet the woman who I believe is the ultimate style icon - Erin O’Conner!’ says Nelson.
Mixing at Monaco has not gone to Nelson’s head however as he still found time to open another Brown’s salon in Lockerbie and create Linear, his brand new hair collection. The collection took top billing recently for Schwarzkopf at huge hair trade event Salon International in London. For Linear Nelson used an innovative ‘over cutting’ technique and muted colour tones with low side partings to produce some stunning seasonal styles.
Nelson continues to bring the exceptional standards and discipline of his Sassoon background to bear on the industry, packaged with his personal brand of creativity, flair and style. He will soon be hosting training seminars in the UK and Ireland on behalf of international colour house Schwarzkopf and focussing some time on his growing salon empire before turning his attention back to the catwalks in February. There may only be 24 hours in a day but Nelson seems to be using all of them!
