The 70 minute show from independent hairdressing education company, the Five Point Alliance brought the inspiration of London hairdressing and fashion to the Paris stage. Debbie, Stephen and Nelson presented their own micro collection of looks with colour and compering by Tracy Hayes. The Alliance is a flexible network of experienced educators who join forces to share their personal creativity and vision for hairdressing. The content is entirely focussed on technique and represents a brand of hairdressing rather than a single hairdressing brand. Each hair professional presented three finished models and one on-stage demonstration, talking about their personal approach to hairdressing and their perspective on what’s hot and happening in hair.
Nelson Brown of Brown’s – delivered Japanese Manga inspired shapes with disconnected lengths, square layers and solid outlines. Flashes of extreme colour such as magenta and cerise were placed through the hair to accentuate the idea of ‘drawing lines through the hair’.
Debbie G of Debbie G Training – contradictory texture and hidden shapes and colours were the basis of Debbie’s collection. These looks worked with short, mid-length and longer styles giving breadth and variety. Overhanging panels of length, tight graduation and weight through the perimeter all worked to provide styles that gave everyone something to love. The deep green, chocolate and vibrant red shades were placed contradictory to the hair cut to add yet more interest.
Stephen Mackinder of Mackinder Hair – sensuous short hair was the inspiration behind this micro collection. Flat panels through the sides, surprise short lengths through the crown and heavy sweeping fringes that can be dressed to suit were coloured baby blonde through to caramel with hidden sections of grey, blue and gold through the fringe.
The audience, more used to seeing theatrical presentation were clearly excited by the amount of technical education on offer and rushed the stage at the end to photograph and touch the models’ hair. The Creative Team and all the support staff worked incredibly hard to make the show happen including driving through the night to reach Paris after fire closed the Eurotunnel. The team included graduate stylist Jake Unger of hob salons whose ‘can do’ attitude was appreciated by everyone. Jake helped with everything from blow drying to dressing the models. Five Point Alliance Director, Martyn Wady said “MCB’s showed a refreshing attitude to education at trade events by their diverse programme of shows. This demonstrates they have a real understanding and a commitment to providing visitors with valuable education.” He added, “This was also a great opportunity for our team to work with their peers from other organisations and the creativity and sharing of ideas backstage was awe inspiring.”
